UI Design

Starcraft
Uses a lot of menus, with quick keys. Once you get a lot of units and multiple building areas, it becomes more difficult to more to where you want to be , which is why quick keys are extremely useful. Every unit and building has their own menus/ actions to choose from. When you get use to using a certain race you learn all the quick keys to be able to direct your units faster.

Zelda: A Link to the Past

Zelda has a basic interface that is easy to use. It only allows you to have one tool at a time besides your sword and shield. To change weapons you have to pause the game and switch the weapon. This actually gets the player a much need break while fighting the main bosses

Starcraft vs. Zelda

Both rely on menus. While Starcraft has a great deal more than Zelda and is a much more difficult game to master.

Level Design Critique

Zelda: A Link to the Past

At first you are only allowed to follow a certain path, to start the game. You must sneak into the castle. After that you have a huge world to explore. At first the world has three main dungeons and castle plus various little place. Once you reach the dark world there are seven dungeons and a castle to explore.

Starcraft

Since starcraft is a RTS its level change a lot during play. And have different strenghts and weakness. Such as having more resources, a better place for denfence of your base, or less resources and a wide open base.

Week 6 - Two Critiques

Two Towers:

I would be careful with the name you have chosen its might remind people of 9/11 or since its a medieval free it might remind people of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. But other than that the game seems to be pretty solid. It has the same feel as 1945 the flight game that you play as an airplane, but with a more free flowing game play.

Tank Hero:

The game is a lot like the other games that involve a tank. I think that if there could be some changes in how you go about the game. Like the pilot has certain skills and different things they might be good at. The armor upgrade is cool, but thing about having the tank before different countries that have different resources and technology so they get different upgrades.

Week 5 Assessment

We have started working on game play and character design. The game is puzzled based and the character is a ninja, in a black uniform

Week 5 - Critique 3

Zelda: A Link to the Past is well balanced. As you go through the game it gets hard, but at the same time the player becomes better at controlling the character and also gets better items. The game comes with a bunch of side quests that allow the player to become even better. There are different styles that you can play and use different weapons. There are expert players that don't get all the life that is optional, which makes the game harder.

Starcraft is a well balanced game. Some items are readily available for all players to use, and others can only be held by the player who gets it first. In multiplayer, you are pitted against players of all levels of skills. But you can set the skill of the computers you are against, which people are in which teams and these allows the player to customize the difficulty of the multiplayer game. The game is easy to learn but there are a lot of different stragies that a person could use. Since there are different types of gameplay, both single player and multiplayer, a player can choose to train himself online with a more experienced group. This allows a player to start off with the basics and ramp up the difficulty as he gets better.
