Game Critique 1

Game Critique of Starcraft & Kingdom Hearts

Starcraft which is a real time strategy computer game made by Blizzard Entertainment. Starcraft was a variation of Blizzard's already successful Warcraft and Warcraft 2. Starcraft brought some new and interesting aspects for game play. In the first two Warcraft games there were only two races to choose from human and orc. In Starcraft there were three races to choose from. Since all three races were very different from one another there was a lot of different strategies that could be used.

The game's story takes place over three campaigns one for each race and containing ten levels. There are also a lot of cheat codes for those that get stuck. But the thing that's makes Starcraft such an great game to play is the online play and custom maps. Some of the great maps include turret defense, where you just make turrets and defend against flying creatures, and the fastest map possible which allows everyone playing to get resources as fast as possible and get all the possible units and buildings. This makes it hard to know what your opponent is going to do.

Later on Blizzard released an expansion to Starcraft, adding new units and thirty new levels which made for many more possible strategies.

What I liked the most about this game is the editable of maps and being able to make your own maps. And I have spent countless hours online play with my friends.

Kingdom Hearts is an action RPG, developed by Squaresoft and Disney for the Playstation 2. Kingdom Hearts was one of the first games actions games that allowed the user to change the team of character they were using during the game. This allowed you to use the different abilities of the characters to make the game easier or harder. Its also had three choices at the beginning of the game to set up you characters main attributes, being attack, defense and magic. Depending on which you chose your character would start with different stats.

The game has an interesting story making a new alternate setting that includes classic Disney characters like Mikey, Donald and Goofy, with characters from Squaresoft's popular Final Fantasy series, such as Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 and Squall from Final Fantasy 8. There is a central plot for the game which takes place across multiple worlds, while at the same time there are stand alone stories within each world. The ending of the game finishes off the story but then starts another story which continues in the new sequels, Kingdom Hearts:Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2.

I spent a lot of time on this game. I found it enjoy to create and find new weapons and ships. The side quests and so many different stories makes it a good game with high re-play value.
